Objective of Magnolia Fire Department


The objective of this organization shall be to engage in the activities of organizing, operating, conducting, and maintaining a fire department for the purpose of preserving and protecting life and property. This is a neighborhood based organization operating from localized stations and providing fire prevention, education, suppression services, rescue, and hazardous material response and other services as needed. These services are provided within the department’s chartered area and in response to similar requests for mutual aid to communities within the area surrounding the department’s chartered area.

Membership

A member is a person who contributes personal service in pursuit of the objective of the Magnolia Fire Department and who meets the criteria hereafter stated for obtaining and maintaining membership.

To obtain volunteer membership a person must meet all of the following criteria:

The Magnolia Fire Department is looking for Men and Women willing to volunteer their time as Volunteer Firefighters. Becoming a volunteer firefighter is a rewarding way to serve the Greater Magnolia community. The Department covers approximately one hundred sixty-four (164) square miles, operating from nine (9) fire stations. The Volunteer Firefighters main responsibility is performing tasks assigned during emergency incidents. These tasks are fire suppression utilizing fire hose lines to extinguish fire; ventilation of hot gases and smoke from buildings; climbing ground and aerial ladders; search and rescue of missing persons in those structures, and rescue persons from vehicles and flood waters. Non-emergency tasks are participating in Fire Department Training, working at Public Relation (“PR”) events. The Volunteer Firefighter is expected to: • Participate in one (1) to three (3) twelve hour shifts per week once training has been completed. • Expected to respond to emergency incidents while on-duty. • Expected to work as a team member with other station or department personnel. • Expected to perform positive verbal and written communication with the citizens of Magnolia and Department members. Once the above is completed, the volunteer will be assigned to the next Volunteer Candidate class. Training class is nine (9) months long. Persons requesting to volunteer with the Magnolia Fire Department must do the following: • Volunteer candidates shall be eighteen (18) years of age. • Volunteer Candidates must have a valid State of Texas Class “C” Driver’s license and proof of insurance. • Volunteer candidates must be a high school graduate or possess a GED. • Volunteer candidates must be felony free, Class “A” Misdemeanor free, and shall not have been convicted any offenses other than minor traffic violation with-in five (5) years of the date on the application. • Volunteer candidates must pass the interview process from Fire Department staff. • Physical Ability Test (“PAT”). • Pass a medical exam. • Pass a drug/alcohol test including a nicotine test. • New members shall not use tobacco products (smoking and chewing) and shall not use Vaping products. • Volunteers will be compensated with a stipend for all shift work, and attending training events and public relations events.
