About MCESD10
The Montgomery County Emergency Services District #10 operates under Chapter 775, “Emergency Services Districts” of V.T.C.A., Health & Safety Code. The District was converted from a Rural Fire Prevention District on January 1, 1996, after voter approval on October 14, 1995. The District provides Emergency Services to an estimated 80,000 citizens within approximately 175 square miles, an area almost 4 times larger than The Woodlands, and 2/3 the size of Austin or Fort Worth, Texas. The District covers an area between Tomball, The Woodlands, Montgomery and Waller, Texas.
The District utilizes the property and sales taxes it collects to provide funding to equip and operate the Magnolia Fire Department (MFD). The MFD currently operates nine Fire Stations and has more than forty Emergency Response Vehicles (Fire Engines, Ladder Trucks, Water Tanker Trucks, Medical Response vehicles, etc.) in service to respond to the community’s needs.
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) Incorporated, and the Texas Department of Insurance, State Fire Marshal’s Office have listed the Magnolia Fire Department (“MFD”) and Montgomery County Emergency Services No. 10 (“MCESD No. 10”) as a Class Two/Ten (2/10) Fire Department. This ISO Public Protection Classification (PPC) of two (2) is applied to all properties within five (5) road miles of a fire station. The Ten (10) is for properties greater than five (5) road miles from a fire station. This ISO rating is good, regardless of proximity to fire hydrants. The MFD has nine 3,000-gallon tanker trucks and nine 1000-gallon pumper trucks, as well as the ability to draft water from ponds, lakes and swimming pools.
The rating of 2/10 is effective on December 1, 2021.
MCESD No. 10 is a duly organized emergency services district, created to protect life and property from fire and to conserve natural and human resources. The District is funded by property taxes paid to it by its citizens (residential and commercial property owners) as well as sales taxes (effective October 1, 2014). MCESD No. 10 covers a one hundred sixty-four (164) square mile area in southwestern Montgomery County, and protects an estimated population of 138,000 people.
MCESD No. 10 is charged with providing firefighting facilities and suppression and rescue services to its citizens. As of January 1, 2022, the district is now the sole provider of these services utilizing full-time, part-time and volunteer personnel to deliver these services.
MCESD No. 10 does not operate an Ambulance Service, but responds with the Montgomery County Hospital District (MCHD) for Emergency Medical calls as medical first responders who initiate emergency medical treatment until the MCHD arrives on the scene. All full-time and part-time and some volunteer personnel are licensed Emergency Medical Technicians.
MCESD No. 10 does not provide Fire Code Enforcement in the district. Fire Inspections, Code Enforcement and Arson Investigations are provided by the Montgomery County Fire Marshal’s Office.
